We are now in the second week of the new year. Feel any different? Is your routine any different, has your diet changed or are you taking a new route to work each day? If not, why not? As much as we want to kickstart something new at the stroke of midnight for the New Year, what is the motivation behind it? Is it because it gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, you want to feel part of the group all joining something, or because you crave something else? Something more. What is your motivation? We are all still saying “Happy New Year” to friends and business associates we have not seen recently, but again, are we doing anything different or just rolling same tired bad habits from 2021 into 2022? What if we decided to do something so small that it hardly is noticeable? The kicker is that you must do it every day. Every. Single. Day. What would that be? Would it make a difference? Who would it make a difference to?
Surprise…. It would make a difference to YOU! Then, after repeating it day after day, it would make a difference to others! What am I talking about? I am talking about GRATEFULNESS! Be grateful! For the big and the small, the pretty and the ugly parts of each day. Why should you be grateful for some ugly part of the day you ask? For a number of reasons actually! Be thankful you got through it or be grateful for the lesson you learned. Be grateful it did not happen to someone you love. We are usually more willing to have something crappy happen to ourselves than to someone we love. Be grateful for that! The crabby old person that is rude to the server – be grateful you are not married to them! There are lots, albeit tons of things to be grateful for. You just must look. Take off those dirty joyless glasses and find the beauty in life! You don't believe me? Try it for 10 days. That’s not even long enough to technically become a habit. Try it anyway. Look for something to be grateful for. Step it up a notch and TELL them you are grateful for them! Just see how people will respond to you! When they do, you will want more! So, let’s look for the things to be grateful for. Sometimes at the end of a hard day, it is just your comfortable bed, and that’s okay. Maybe it is the neighbor that moved your trashcan to keep it from getting run over in the street. Or the person that waved you over to change lanes. Come on…. You can find things! Look for your sunflower field. When you find it, you will know, and then you will start to see the beautiful sunflowers every time you look! Tell me what you are grateful for today! May you find all your sunflowers in 2022!
